Artist Statement
	Dorothia's background in nature illustration, fine art and design has naturally segued into the licensing market by combining her love of nature's details and personal artistic expression. "I'm growing as an artist and am allowing myself the freedom to express a more artistic interpretation in my work. " she explains. "I still stay true to the intricate details, yet am allowing myself to work more freely. When I observe a flower, bee or butterfly, I marvel at the magnificence of each detail and want to capture this in my paintings. She continues to paint what she loves; birds, butterflies, botanicals and nature, but does so with a greater understanding of color trends, design and appeal for the products that work best with her images.
Gift Design Experience
	In 2003, Painted Wings Studio launched a gift collection for the museum gift store market. The collection featured the botanical discoveries of the Lewis and Clark expedition. Dorothia researched the botanicals and painted the original watercolor paintings. From that she designed each of the gift items that were marketed through Painted Wings Studio®. The quality, pricing and the cohesive display of the collection appealed to the high standards of the museum stores. These note cards, decorative kitchen towels, shirts, bookmarks, soaps and magnets sold beyond expectations during the first season of the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial. More information
